What is RSS?

RSS is short for Really Simple Syndication. It's an XML file that can be read by special feed reading software or a web service you can use from your web browser. Put the address of one of the RSS feeds from a website into your reader and it will display the latest updated pages.  This means you can stay in touch with many different sources of information and news - it's quicker than revisiting a site to check for updates and rather than having to look for new headlines, feed readers scan for updates and display them for you.

How to use RSS feeds?

To view RSS feeds you need software called a feed reader or aggregator. There are many different versions, some of which are accessed using a browser and some of which are downloadable applications.  All allow you to display and subscribe to the RSS feeds you want.  Different readers work on different operating systems, so you will need to take this into account when you make your choice.  For Windows, a very easy feed reader to try is RssReader from www.rssreader.com.  RssReader is Freeware which means it's free for anyone to download and use.  (Ashburton Fencing Club is not responsible for the content of external internet sites).

Ashburton RSS feeds:

Once you have installed a feed reader you can add one of the RSS feeds from the Ashburton website (they all have the same content) by right-clicking on the orange RSS Feed link, copying the link/shortcut (URL of the feed) and pasting it into the reader.

The feeds will automatically show the latest content from five pages - News & Events, Sword & Screen Quiz, Photo Gallery, Video Gallery and the Related Links page.

If you already have a reader, then right-click and copy the RSS Feed for Ashburton now:
